Profile of  Department of Economics

 

The Department of Economics was established in 2013 with the commencement of our college and has been offering an undergraduate program in Economics ever since. The department aims to provide students with a thorough understanding of Economic theories and their practical applications, equipping them to address real-world challenges . Following the syllabus of Calicut University (2019and  FYUGP 2024) the department offers a well-rounded academic experience that includes both core economics subjects and interdisciplinary papers to enhance students’ analytical abilities.

 Program Details:

  • Program Name: Undergraduate Program in Economics
  • Sanctioned Strength: Initially 40 students , with a marginal increase of 20 students now accommodating 60  students in one batch.   The number of students currently on going their UG program of department of Economics is 178 in academic year 2024-25.
  • Curriculum and Subsidiary Papers: The UG program is structured around the syllabus provided by Calicut University.
  • As per  Syllabus 2019,  Students can select two subsidiary papers as part of their program beside their core papers in Economics. They are:
    • Indian Constitution and Politics
    • Modern Indian History

These subsidiary subjects are intended to provide students with a broader, multidisciplinary perspective on Economics by integrating political and historical contexts.

  • As per new Syllabus of FYUGP 2024, the students can select any courses from any Department as minor courses and interdisciplinary courses  from the given basket of available courses with their major paper in

The department is staffed by a twoPermanent faculty members and one guest Faculty.The department’s facultiesare  committed to deliver a quality educationensuring that students receive personalized attention and a strong foundation in Economics.

 Student Enrollment:

As of now, the department serves a total of 178 students in the undergraduate program, with the student strength having increased over the years due to growing interest in the subject.

 Infrastructure and Resources:

The department is equipped with the necessary infrastructure to deliver quality education:

  • Classrooms: Well-equipped classrooms with modern teaching aids like Interactive Digital Panels.
  • Library Resources: Access to a variety of academic resources, including textbooks, journals, and reference materials on Economics, political science, and history.

The department is working towards expanding and enhancing its infrastructure to meet the demands of increasing student enrolment and the evolving educational needs.

Vision of the Department of Economics

To nurture and empower students to become informed, socially responsible, and critically thinking individuals who will contribute to sustainable Economic development, particularly in rural communities. The department aims to foster a deep understanding of Economic theories and their practical applications, preparing students to become future leaders in Economic policy-making, rural development, and societal welfare.

Mission of the Department of Economics
