EARN WHILE YOU LEARN (EWYL) PROGRAMME BY HIGHER EDUCATION DEPARTMENT
EARN WHILE YOU LEARN (EWYL) is an innovative scheme designed by the
Higher Education Department Government of Kerala to inculcate a value-
conscious educational community in the modern-day academic environment
and enable them to acquire vocational skills and thereby acquire saving habits
and financial self-reliance. The design of the said project is based on the
cyclical concept of working with learning and thereby saving, economic self-
sufficiency and the financial stimulus it creates in society.
The ultimate aim of the project is to effectively transform a knowledge
society into a knowledge economy, thereby making the society in which the
student belongs more cohesive and on a holistic development path. The EARN
WHILE YOU LEARN project, is aimed to discover the hidden talents in each
student and to find the field of activity according to their abilities and thereby
design a secure future life. EARN WHILE YOU LEARN is a powerful project that
can wipe out the unemployment in Educated youth of Kerala.
EWYL Programme – 'Art's Attire' Initiative at Chelakkara Government Arts and
Science College, Killimangalam.
The Department of Economics at Chelakkara Arts and Science College has
launched a pioneering initiative under the "Earn While You Learn" (EWYL)
Programme, aimed at providing hands-on training to students while enhancing
their skills in practical areas. In line with this initiative, a proposal was
submitted to the Department of Collegiate Education, seeking a grant of Rs.
35,000 for setting up a stitching unit for the academic year 2024-25 .The same
was accepted by the Department of collegiate education and sanctioned by
the Government . The programme targets undergraduate (UG) and
postgraduate (PG) students, with an emphasis on skill-building and
entrepreneurship.
The stitching unit, named ‘Art’s Attire,’ was inaugurated on 7th February
2024 by our Panchayath Member, Sri Ramdas Karath, marking the
commencement of the training programme. A unique logo for the EWYL
programme was also created by Govind, a first-year student from the
Department of English. The programme began with a 10-day workshop that
took place during lunch breaks and evening sessions, ensuring minimal
disruption to regular study hours. This workshop was led by a professional
trainer, providing 17 enthusiastic beneficiaries of the programme with
essential skills and guidance in stitching. These students, currently in the first
and second years, are receiving comprehensive training, despite PG students
not participating this year due to academic scheduling.
In the upcoming month of June in the next academic year, the
Department of Economics plans to organize an exhibition showcasing the
products created by the EWYL team. This exhibition will serve as a platform to
display the talent and creativity of the students.
